Name and concept

Drummix are several drum kits professionally recorded and put into VSTi plugins designed for different musical styles. The plugin has outputs for every microphone recorded so you can mix the drums like a real drum kit. We created these plugins because we felt the acoustic drum plugins available on the market all sounded very polished and premixed. This is not the case with our Drummix plugin. They are unprocessed drum plugins! These drum kits were recorded with excellent microphones from brands such as Neumann, AKG, Coles, Beyerdynamic, Shure and many more. They were professionally engineered through mic pres from Universal Audio, Neve, TLA, AMEK and Elberg into 24 bit RME converters and Nuendo. The next process would be mixing, but we left that up to you and this is actually one of the greatest benefits of these plugins.

Stereo and multiple outputs

The plugin comes both in stereo for a quick setup and in a multiple output version. In the multiple output version all the different microphones are sent out to 12 different physical outputs in your DAW. This way you can mix the drums just like a real recorded drum kit. Add EQ, compression and reverb to taste. Go for hi-fi or low-fi sound or even remove some of the microphones to make it sound completely different. We believe the effects you have in your DAW are much better than the ones inside a drum plugin.

Education

Not only are these great production tools, but they can also be very usefull at a school or as a personal learning tool. Where else can you find unlimited recorded drum tracks that no one has already mixed? This is a powerful tool to develope your skills as a mixing engineer. Record the drums with MIDI the way you hear fit and then ad your personal mixing skills to it. The manual includes examples on how to mix all the different microphones.

Collection

Though it is a collection of plugins, they are at the moment sold seperately at an incredible low price compared to our competitors even though the sound is more than comparable. There might be bundles available in the future.

Sound

Many of our competitors offer the possibility to change drums and cymbals inside the plugins. We believe in keeping the drums the way they were recorded the whole way through to make them sound as good as possible. We do not believe in interchanging drums and cymbals because you will end up with different artefacts than in real life. If you were to change a drum on a real drum kit you’d have to re-record every hit to make everything sound correct. Most companies don’t do this, so when you drag in a new snare drum, you’re likely to hear a different snare buzzing in that microphone than the one you selected. Drummix also does not offer hit randomizing and non-cycling since we have a different approach. Rather than simulating alternating drum hits by switching between two different strokes on the same velocity, we prefered to put those strokes on different keys.  This is easier to play, and it sounds great. On this particular drum kit we offer two keys for all main snare and kick hits. See the layout on the bottom of the page.

Layers

All our plugins are recorded with 5 to 10 different velocity layers for each sound.

Price

All plugins will be available at an introductory price of $30! How can we sell this plugin so much less expensive than our competitors, you ask? Well, it is because all our plugins are recorded and made by Bjarte Ludvigsen who is a drummer and owns a professional recording studio.

Watermarking

We believe that watermarking is the best way to protect plugins in the future.

E-drums

These plugins are set up as a GM drum kit and will work with e-drums. However, they are not specifically adapted for that purpose, therefore we recommend trying the demo before the purchase to see if our product meets your needs. If it doesn’t, we can recommend Toontrack’s EZdrummer, which is a nice plugin that works very well with E-drums.

Compatibility

To be able to use the plugin you need a sequencer that supports VST instruments and multiple outputs such as Nuendo, Cubase, Cakewalk, Sonar, Reaper, Samplitude, Studio One etc. Please note that this is a Windows plugin and will not work on Linux Ubuntu or Mac OS X.

Drive

The content are installed on the C drive, but you can move it to another place if that’s what you prefer. All you have to do is to load the files one time manually from the place that you moved them to and save the preset in your DAW’s preset manager.
