Drummix CM

Do you want to create authentic-sounding percussion tracks with Drummix CM, a virtual Ludwig drum kit recorded by Bjarte Ludvigsen at Tinnitus Recording with professional microphones through pristine equipment like Neve, Universal Audio, Elberg and RME? Then you need to buy Computer Music magazine march 2012 release as we have collaborated with this supercool version of Drummix.  Drummix CM – does the next best thing, providing you with wicked hits that you can sequence at your leisure to create authenticsounding drum tracks. Who says we don’t spoilt you? Based around meticulous 12-mic recordings of the reissue of Ringo Starr’s drum kit – the Ludwig Fab Four – Drummix CM includes not only pristine direct-mic’ed drum sounds, but also the bleed heard on the other mics. This creates an incredibly realistic sound that’s impossible to replicate with simple one-shot drum sounds. The bleeding has been implemented to give a desirable combination of sonic authenticity and ease of use – the best of both worlds! For instance, you’ll hear the kick drum in the overhead and room mics, so you can get a fat, compressed ‘room sound’, but you won’t hear it in the snare, hi-hat and toms channel, making for a cleaner, tighter mix. Likewise with the toms, with the room/overhead channels containing just enough of the buzz/rustle of the snare wires resonating in sympathy. You can use the software’s built‑in mixer to control the sound, or you can use the included multioutput version of the plug-in to process each channel and create your own unique drum mixes.

Layers

This plugin is only recorded with 3 different velocity layers for each sound.

Concept

The plugin has outputs for every microphone recorded so you can mix the drums like a real drum kit. The plugins was created because I felt the acoustic drum plugins available on the market all sounded very polished and premixed. This is not the case with the Drummix product line or MyDrumset. The drum kit was recorded with excellent microphones from brands such as Neumann, AKG, Coles, Beyerdynamic, Shure and many more.

The plugin comes both in stereo for a quick setup and in a multiple output version. In the multiple output version all the different microphones are sent out to 12 different physical outputs in your DAW. This way you can mix the drums just like a real recorded drum kit. Add EQ, compression and reverb to taste. Go for hi-fi or lo-fi sound or even remove some of the microphones to make it sound completely different. I believe the effects you have in your DAW are much better than the ones inside a drum plugin.

Sound

Drummix CM has only 3 velocity layers for each instrument.  Still I believe that you will find Drummix CM sonically very nice. It can go from small to really big rock sound since it has room mics and even space mics placed in a huge hall!

Price

Drummix CM is free for everybody but you will need to buy the magazine to get it!

Protection

None:-)

E-drums

These plugins are set up as a GM drum kit and will work with e-drums. However, they are not specifically adapted for that purpose, therefore we recommend trying the demo before the purchase to see if our product meets your needs. If it doesn’t, we can recommend Toontrack’s EZdrummer, which is a nice plugin that works very well with E-drums.

Compatibility

To be able to use the plugin you need a sequencer that supports VST instruments and multiple outputs such as Nuendo, Cubase, Cakewalk, Sonar, Reaper, Samplitude, Studio One etc. Please note that this is a Windows plugin and will not work on Linux Ubuntu or Mac OS X. Important notice regarding Presonus Studio One 2: there’s issues with this particullar new DAW that we are trying to fix. Studio One seems to work just fine:-)
